Russia, Ukraine, exchanged 372 prisoners of war as an American president that says efforts to negotiate the ceasefire is “on the right track.”

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 372 prisoners of war in a swap in which the United Arab Emirates mediated, as US President Donald Trump said he had made a “very good” phone call with Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that Moscow returned to 175 soldiers and “22 prisoners of war who were seriously injured in need of urgent medical assistance” while it was “goodwill gesture.” He said that Kyiv returned 175 Russian soldiers.

Zelenskyy confirmed the swap and wrote on X that it was “one of the largest” exchanges since the beginning of the full invasion of Russia for Ukraine in February 2022.

The Ukrainian leader added: “I thank our team for their important work in finding the prisoners of the Ukrainian war and facilitating the stock exchanges, as well as the results that bring hope.

The stock exchange comes at a time when Trump and Zelinski made a phone call, a day after the US President made a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as he seeks to mediate a truce in the war.

In a post on social media after the talks, Trump said he had a “very good” invitation with Zelinski and that the efforts made towards negotiating the ceasefire in Russia’s invasion of Russia “on the right track.”

Trump added that the purpose of the invitation is “the alignment of both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs,” saying that he asked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz to provide more details to the conversation in a future statement.

During Trump’s discussion with Putin on Tuesday, the Russian leader agreed not to target energy infrastructure, but he refused to support the ceasefire for 30 days completely.

Before inviting him with Trump, Zelinski said that Putin’s pledge was “a great dispute with reality” after a barrage of Russian drone strikes throughout Ukraine.

“Until last night, after Putin’s conversation with … Trump, when Putin said he claimed that he was providing orders to stop strikes on Ukrainian energy, 150 drones were fired overnight, including on energy facilities,” Zellinski told Helsinki with Finnish President Alexander Stop.

Dozens of attacks

The Ukrainian army said that Russia fired 145 drones, and the air defenses were dropped 72 of them.

The Ukraine Ministry of Defense stated that one person was killed and that two hospitals were affected during the Russian strikes that also took power for some railway in the country.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said its air defenses destroyed 57 Ukrainian drones.

In the southern Russian region of Krasnodar, the authorities said that the Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire in the oil warehouse near the village of Kafakzkaya, and no one was injured.
