Online, the GhostBed brand offers a wide range of mattresses. From affordable foam beds to high-end hybrid beds with patented cooling technology, it seems like the brand truly has something for everyone. Nowadays, their lineup features some high-quality RV mattresses.
Of all the beds you can choose from, the brand’s flagship mattress is probably the GhostBed Classic. This is a simple, foam-filled option with decent firmness but a fairly subtle design and feel. In this review, I’ll cover everything you should know about this amazingly unique bed.
First impressions of the GhostBed Classic
Shortly after ordering online, this bed arrived in our space with absolutely free shipping. It showed up in a tall cardboard box, and like any other bed in a box, we dumped its contents, peeled off the plastic and watched the bed inflate. Since it’s an all-foam mattress, we noticed that it looked a little misshapen right out of the box, but it looked completely normal after giving it a full night to sit on our foundation and expand.
In the morning, it was time to test the mattress. When testing the response, it felt much different than a regular all-foam bed. It was surprisingly responsive but also felt dense and sticky whenever I pushed it into the bed. This was also confirmed when I jumped. On my back and stomach, I experienced a lot of support and push back, but when I turned to my side, it conformed to my shoulders and hips well with plenty of cushioning — to me, it felt more subtle than neutral.

The firmness and feel of the GhostBed Classic mattress
What does a GhostBed Classic mattress look like?
We classify this type of mattress as a mixed foam type. The bed’s memory foam transitional layer gives you comfort and pressure relief on your sides, while the latex foam top layer provides plenty of responsiveness when you sleep on your back or stomach. Beds like this, which have two very different types of foam in their construction, often end up with a more blended foam feel – although it may sound strange, it’s actually very comfortable.
How firm is the GhostBed Classic mattress?
This bed falls around average on our scale, give or take. It provides sleepers with equal parts pressure relief and support, making it versatile enough to suit all types of sleepers. Regardless of whether you like to sleep on your back, side, stomach, or one of the three sleeping configurations throughout the night, this option should suit you well.
Getting a bed with a neutral firmness level like this is often a safe approach, especially if you’re not sure how firm you want your bed to be. The medium firmness is pretty much the best of the world in comfort, being soft and firm at the same time. I personally sleep on a medium-sized bed, and I really enjoy the level of comfort it provides me. If you want a super soft option, this isn’t necessarily the one, but feel free to check out our products Best mattresses for side sleepers List to see some other beds suitable for this preference.
Classic GhostBed mattress construction
This mattress is 11 inches thick and consists of three layers of foam:
- At the bottom, you have a thick layer of dense support foam. This gives the mattress its main support base.
- Then you have the bed’s transitional layer of gel-infused memory foam, which provides pressure relief for side sleepers and acts as a barrier between the bed’s support and comfort layers.
- On top, the GhostBed Classic has a layer of latex foam for comfort. This balances the dense feel of the memory foam underneath with some responsive, springy comfort.
- The bed is covered with a soft, breathable cover. It is very comfortable and should help you stay temperature neutral while sleeping on the mattress at night.
Performance of the classic GhostBed mattress
Motion isolation
This is an important thing to consider in your next mattress if you or your partner are light sleepers. Sometimes, one person can wake the other if they move excessively or wake up in the middle of the night. In this case, you will need a bed that prevents movement well. We can say that the GhostBed Classic performs well in terms of isolating cross mattress motion. I highly doubt you’ll be bumping anyone awake in this particular bed any time soon.
Edge-to-edge support
For an all-foam mattress, we’d say the GhostBed Classic has good edge support. When you place your weight on the perimeter of the bed, the support foam and responsive latex foam on top help keep you stable along those edges. If edge support is a major consideration for you or your partner, I would consider a hybrid mattress that has reinforced coils along the edges instead of just foam. However, you shouldn’t feel like you’re about to fall off the mattress at any time – what a relief.
temperature
As I mentioned, the GhostBed Classic should sleep in a neutral temperature range. It won’t cool you down while you sleep on it, but it shouldn’t warm you up either. Most mattresses online work similarly when it comes to temperature regulation, and it often depends on external factors – not just the bed itself. However, GhostBed as a brand does have some other active cooling beds to consider, and if you want to see more, you can always check out our The best cooling mattress for hot sleepers existing.
durability
The GhostBed Classic should be durable enough to last average body types for at least the next seven to ten years, if not longer. When it comes to the durability of online mattresses, we typically say that hybrid beds with support coils outperform all-foam support bases in the long run – foam degrades a little faster than steel coils over time. However, compared to a very cheap option found on Amazon, this mattress is made of higher quality, which helps reduce durability issues in the long run.
Who is the best GhostBed Classic mattress?
Due to its delicate construction and texture, this bed will not be the best fit for everyone. While most people will find the bed generally comfortable and comfy, here are those we think will like it more.
Sleeping position
Combination sleepers who switch between different positions at night are likely to get the most out of the GhostBed Classic. Its medium-firm shape is supportive enough for back and stomach sleepers while pressure-relieving enough to accommodate most side sleepers. All types of sleepers should do well on this mattress.
When it comes to more specific sleep preferences, things get a little tricky here. If you want a super firm or soft mattress, this won’t necessarily be the bed of your dreams. Most GhostBed beds range around medium firmness to accommodate a wide range of sleepers, but perhaps not all. You can always check our website The best firm mattress List whether you prefer to sleep on a firmer mattress.
Body type
This mattress is best for supporting medium to small sized individuals. Heavier people can use this all-foam bed style, but they may prefer a more supportive hybrid mattress with coils. If you’re on the much heavier side and are interested in checking out other superior support options, feel free to check out our list Best beds for heavy people.
GhostBed Classic Mattress Prices
measuring | Measurements (inches) | price |
---|---|---|
twin | 38×75 inches | $1,195 |
Twin XL | 38×80 inches | $1,295 |
Full | 54×75 inches | $1,395 |
queen | 60×80 inches | $1,495 |
king | 76×80 inches | $1,815 |
Cal King | 72×84 inches | $1,825 |
One of my favorite things about this mattress is how affordable it is — especially after the discount is applied. As a brand, GhostBed is usually great with the promotions it offers on its beds throughout the year. Right now, you can expect to pay around $900 for a queen size, which is a lot of money for a mixed foam bed of this quality.
Trial, shipping and warranty
GhostBed also goes a step further with its set of policies. The Classic mattress ships absolutely free in a box, and once in your possession, you’ll get a 101-night trial period to try it out at home risk-free. If you don’t like the product within this time frame, you can return it for free for a full refund. On the other hand, if you decide to keep it, you will get a 20-year warranty. Just make sure you use the right foundation for the bed. Otherwise, you may void your bed’s warranty.
How does GhostBed Classic compare to other mattresses?
GhostBed Classic vs Nectar Classic
Aside from the leading GhostBed, another popular mattress consideration online is the Nectar Classic. Unlike the GhostBed Classic, you can choose between the all-foam or hybrid version of the Nectar Classic. Compared to the mixed foam feel of the GhostBed Classic, the Nectar mattress has a more responsive foam quality. They’re also a bit more stable, with any support option you choose, and considerably more affordable after discount. If you’re looking for the option backed by the most consumer-friendly policies, Nectar is the clear winner between the two in this department.
GhostBed Classic vs Bear Original
Another bed similar to the GhostBed Classic is the Bear Original, another popular option made of foam. It’s another three-layer foam mattress, but instead of a mixed foam feel, the Bear Original offers sleeping with a memory foam quality that’s also firmer. Bear backs its mattresses with slightly better policies, and they’re less expensive after discount. You also have the option of spending up to get the Bear Original with a Celliant cover, which could move the needle for more athletic types.
Final ruling
The GhostBed Classic is a popular mattress online for a reason: It offers sleepers overall comfort with a quirky feel to the mattress, setting it apart from the fray. I would consider it if you want a bed with a mixed foam feel that’s about average, and you also have a larger budget when it comes to your next mattress.
You might like this mattress if:
- You are looking for an all-foam mattress
- You want a blended, foamy texture
- You want a bed with medium firmness
- You want a high-quality mattress that is also affordable
You may not like this mattress if:
- You’re looking for a more supportive hybrid bed
- You prefer the feel of a neutral mattress
- You want to spend on a more premium option
- You are on a very tight budget
It’s actually a very healthy story. Apparently the founder of GhostBed was afraid of ghosts hiding under his bed when he was a young boy. He took this idea with him all the way until he created his own mattress company. It sounds like a dream – but it’s true.
no. Well, at least the classic is not. It’s average on our firmness scale, which means it offers sleepers an equal balance of support and comfort. Although not overly soft or firm, this firmness accommodates a wide range of sleeping preferences.
Short answer, yes. All GhostBed mattresses are made and manufactured in the United States. In addition, all materials used in its construction are CertiPUR-US certifiedWhich means they are ethically constructed and non-toxic.
