We’ve been hearing rumors about foldable devices that Apple may or may not make for years to plans for a foldable iPad, but the latest suggests we may also be about to get something much bigger. According to Mark Gorman in In a news release this weekend, Apple is developing a foldable device with a screen that can open up to about 20 inches. The plan is for “something like a giant iPad that unfolds to the size of two iPad Pros side-by-side,” with elements of both iPad and Mac functionality, according to Gorman. The company is said to be targeting a 2028 release.

Not only will the device be bulky, but Apple is also working on making it wrinkle-free when opened, Gurman reports, something other companies have failed to do with their foldable devices. Apple’s prototypes “had an almost invisible crease,” he writes, but it didn’t completely disappear. The report comes about a week after A Which described a similar device with an 18.8-inch display that is allegedly scheduled for release between 2028 and 2030. Gorman expects the foldable device to run on “iPadOS or a variant of it.”
