PEOPLE shared that Thomas contacted an unidentified adult to report her alleged wrongdoing, court documents say. “I thought I put her in her crib and accidentally put her in the oven.” Thomas reportedly explained. The unknown person was away when Thomas called hysterically about the baby.

In an official press release, Jackson County Prosecutor Jan Peters Baker praised first responders and prosecutors for their tireless efforts. “We appreciate all of the first responders who worked this scene and the prosecutors who went to the scene in order to issue these charges.” Baker said.

Additionally, Baker expressed his sadness over the infant’s tragic death.

“We recognize the horrific nature of this tragedy and our hearts are heavy with the loss of this precious life. We are confident that the criminal justice system will respond appropriately to these terrible circumstances.
