Prime Minister Narendra Modi met singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh on New Year. The Prime Minister shared photos of the meeting and wrote: “Great interaction with Diljit Dosanjh! He is truly multi-faceted, mixing talent and tradition. We connected through music, culture and more…”

The singer also responded with his experience of meeting the Prime Minister with a post on

The meeting comes amid the recent controversy over a post by the singer on social media that sparked a debate on ‘Punjab vs Punjab’. In a recent post on X, the singer shared a video of himself arriving at Chandigarh airport along with the word ‘Punjab’.

Social media users claimed that he deliberately deleted the Indian flag symbol in his post. In response to the accusations, Diljit denied the accusations, which he described as “conspiracy theories.”

“If the tricolor is missed once while mentioning Punjab in a tweet, it is called a conspiracy. Even in a tweet about Bengaluru, it was missed once. If Punjab is written as Punjab, it is called a conspiracy. Whether you write it as Punjab or Punjab… it will always remain Punjabi (Books in Punjabi Language)”.

Referring to the etymology of the word, Diljit said that the name is derived from the Persian language and translates to “land of five rivers” (Pang means five and Ab means water). He said that spelling differences in English, a colonial language, do not change the identity of Punjab.

Earlier, the singer was involved in another controversy over giving a gift to his fans on stage during an event in the United Kingdom. After a fan told him she was from Pakistan, the singer said he did not believe borders divide people. For him, borders between countries are only what politicians want, not the people of either country.

Meanwhile, Dosanjh’s New Year’s Eve party in Ludhiana was overshadowed by a legal controversy after a formal complaint from Punditrao Dharinavar, an assistant professor from Chandigarh. The complaint prompted the Punjab Women and Child Department to intervene and issue an official notice to the Ludhiana District Commissioner to prevent Dosanjh from performing certain songs.

The singer has previously faced similar scrutiny in other cities, including Hyderabad and Indore, for performing songs promoting alcohol and violence. Additionally, during the Indore concert, Dosanjh addressed concerns about tickets for his shows being sold on the black market.
