We test open wireless earbuds based on five key criteria, comparing models with similar design and price. These standards are design, Sound quality, Features, Perform voice calls and value.
design
We evaluate not only how well the earbuds fit (ergonomics) but also their build quality and how well the controls are implemented. We also look at water and dust resistance ratings.
Sound quality
We evaluate sound quality by listening to a selected playlist of music tracks and comparing open-ear headphones to the best competing products in their price range. Audio attributes such as bass definition, clarity, dynamic range, and how natural the headphones sound are key factors in our evaluation.
Features
Some great-sounding open-ear headphones don’t have features, but we take into account the extra features on board. This includes everything from noise cancellation and transparency modes (ambient sound mode) to private sound modes and even ear detection sensors that automatically pause your music when you remove the headphones from your ears.
Perform voice calls
When we test voice calling performance, we take calls on bustling New York streets and evaluate how well the earbuds reduce background noise and how clearly callers can hear your voice.
value
We determine the value after evaluating the strength of the earphones against all these criteria and what the headphones are able to offer compared to other models in their price category.
