Delhi Police has taken a creative and humorous approach with a party-themed advisory targeting drunk drivers and hooligans on New Year’s Eve. Their post on X had a sarcastic tone, warning against misconduct.
“Delhi Police wishes a Happy New Year 2025 to the rioters! We are having a Cell Block Party,” the post declared. The caption added: “Who needs a countdown when you can count down the days until your release.”
Delhi Police added a humorous touch to its warnings by describing the “opening performer” as a breathing apparatus to catch drunk drivers, followed by acts like DJ Buckle Up, DJ Safety First and the band Defensive Drivers. The advisory also included a “VIP Lounge for All,” which offers a seating area with cool dungeon bars and hot tunes.
They creatively highlighted the transportation options in “special red and blue beacon SUVs” and the cinematography driven by speed cameras. Adding to the irony, the post stated: “If you find someone who needs to celebrate, just call 112 and let the good times roll,” with the location being “the nearest police station.”
Following in the footsteps of Delhi Police, Assam and Kolkata Police also posted similar messages urging against drunk driving. Kolkata Police shared a festive themed banner promising a “special performance by DJ Traffic Cops, Kolkata”. Their message humorously declared, “Entry is free for reckless drivers, drunk drivers, traffic signal violators, helmetless bikers and other eligible offenders. Time and place: Kolkata Police District. Try not to be our guests.”
The Assam Police encouraged people to “welcome the New Year safely” by sharing entertaining quotes inspired by Bollywood movie titles. These included, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Par Drunk Driver Nahi!”, “Andaz Apna Ana Lekin Safety Sabki Sabki”, and “Dil Chahta Hai but the law doesn’t do that”. Drive sober.
Meanwhile, in a unique move, Noida Police has announced plans to arrange cabs for drunk drivers to ensure they return home safely. Reports indicate that police will hire taxis on standby for the night, with officers stationed at help desks in shopping centres, bars and restaurants to prevent drunk individuals from driving cars or bikes.
Garden Galleria Mall, a popular destination, will see 300 police personnel deployed on all floors. In addition, arrangements have been made for parking of about 7,000 vehicles, according to reports.
