Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim spoke about his surprise Decision to replace Joshua Zirkzee Just 32 minutes after last night’s defeat to Newcastle.
The Red Devils put in another poor display as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford, and Zirkzee was one of the players who seemed to be particularly struggling on the night.
It was a bit of A nightmare start to Zirkzee’s life at Manchester Unitedwho joined from Bologna in the summer, but has looked quite distant from his new club so far.

Amorim made a rather bold decision to take the Netherlands international off just after the half-hour mark, something you don’t see very often unless a player picks up an injury early on.
Ruben Amorim admits Joshua Zirkzee was ‘struggling’ for Manchester United against Newcastle

To some extent, Amorim made no criticism when speaking about Zirkzee’s decision after the match, saying he did it for the good of the player, who was “suffering”, and for the good of the team because he felt he needed something different.
“You have to think about the team, and sometimes also about the player because he was struggling. I felt that the team was struggling and needed another midfielder, that’s all,” Amorim said, citing Fabrizio Romano.

He added: “Josh is a really good lad. We will support him and continue. It was very difficult for me to do that, but I talked to Josh because it was important to get the message across. We needed Josh out for the team.

Zirkzee looked like a promising young talent at Bologna, but it increasingly appears that a move to United has come too soon for him.
The 23-year-old may still be able to turn things around, but at the moment he doesn’t look good enough for a club of this size.
Amorim’s admission that he simply had to remove a player too soon for his own good and the betterment of the team is truly unfortunate, and it’s hard to see how he will come back from this.
