A source within the Trump administration said that the decision follows the good car industry efforts to transfer manufacturing to the United States, adding that Trump wants to give them a “runway” with their business.
Trade Minister Howard Lootnick said the president “builds an important partnership” with “local auto manufacturers and our great American workers.”
“This deal is a great victory for the president’s commercial policy through the bonus of locally manufactured companies, while providing the runway to the manufacturers who expressed their commitment to investing in America and expanding their local manufacture.”
