China says there are no negotiations with the Trump administration on tariffs

On Thursday, China denied US President Donald Trump that the two sides were involved in active negotiations on the definitions, and said that the United States should cancel one tariff against the nation.

China’s reaction to the customs tariff comes with import duties in the United States that reaches 145 % on Chinese Chinese products, after Mr. Trump said on Tuesday that the final tariff rate on Chinese goods would decrease “largely.” But Beijing on Thursday said that any proposal to apply in this matter was baseless like “trying to catch the wind.”

The trade war between China and the United States has escalated over the past few weeks, as each country wanders in import duties several times in a dream. However, the Trump administration this week provided some signs as being interested in commercial favorable, with Treasury Secretary, Scott Payet, saying that the Trump administration had a “opportunity to obtain a big deal” to trade between the United States and China.

Mr. Trump told the correspondents earlier this week that “everything is active” when asked whether he was participating with China, although Bessent said that there were no official negotiations.

“The position of China must be consistent and we are open to consultations and dialogues, but any form of consultations and negotiations must be held on the basis of mutual respect in an equal way,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce. “Any allegations about the progress of Chinese commercial negotiations and the United States are baseless from an attempt to arrest the wind and have no realistic basis.”

Trump put 145 % on imports from China, while China returned to 125 % tariffs on American products. While Trump gave other countries temporarily stopping for 90 days on the definitions, as its leaders pledged to negotiate with the United States, China has been the exception.

Instead, Beijing raised its own definitions and published other economic measures in response, with the pledge to “fight to the end”. For example, China restricts exports of rare ground minerals and raised multiple cases against the United States in the World Trade Organization.

China also showed that the talks should include canceling all the definitions it currently faces.

“The United States has begun to increase the customs tariff by the United States. If the United States really wants to solve the problem, the rational voices of the international community and all parties at home, abolish all tariff measures unilaterally against China, and find ways to solve differences through equal dialogue.”

Despite the economic measures against China, Trump said on Tuesday that he would be “very nice” and does not play a ball with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“We will live together with great happiness and perfectly, we work together,” Trump said.
