I am Alyoko warns Ian Wright against his involvement in covering women’s football and prohibiting opportunities for female opportunities

Eni Awloco raised concerns about the prominent role of Ian Wright in the women’s football media, indicating that his presence may limit the chances of female experts in an attempt to storm the industry.

The former England and Chelsea striker treated the need for men working in women’s football to realize the vision they occupy.

“I have worked with Ian for a long time, as you know, I think it is a great broadcaster, but I think he is aware of how much he is in the game of women. I think he should be aware of that.”

“The fact of the matter is that there is a limited amount of available spaces. If we have a position where there is an equal opportunity in the men’s game for broadcasters and coaches in the women’s game, it is free for everyone.

“But this is not the case. I cannot control the game of men in the way that, as you know, I used for example.”

When I was asked if she thought it was inappropriate for Right, to be a central figure in covering football for women, Aluko added: “I don’t know about the error, but I think we need to be aware and we need to make sure that women are not banned from a road to broadcast in the game of women.”

Aluko and WRIGHT worked side by side as lists, including during broadcasts such as Women’s World Cup qualifiers in 2021. However, Aluko believes that there is more consideration for women to reach equal access.

“It is still new, it is still growing. There is a limited amount of opportunities and I think men need to be aware of it.

“Men need to realize that, as you know, in a growing sport, increasing sport for women, we did not always have these opportunities, and therefore it comes to awareness and support for other women through this path.”

Wright worked for the women’s game

Wright was very straightforward in his support for the women’s game, as he fired with former England captain Steve Hutton and often appears alongside Kelly Keats to discuss the BBC women’s football.

It was also revealed that Wright was paying for the ACL rehabilitation from the Stoke City, as he contributed 1,700 pounds per month of his pocket after financing the club.

He previously condemned the abuse directed at female critics, saying that she “deserves” its place in the broadcast and that he felt “embarrassed” from the criticism he received.

Barton Saga

Aluko, along with his fellow broadcasters such as Alex Scott and Karen Carney, faced abuse online – some are currently in a legal battle center with Joy Barton.

She sued the former midfielder in Manchester and Newcastle on two sites on social media as of January 2023, where a judge ruled that one of Barton’s tweets carries a defamation meaning, describing it as a “player in the race card”.

Despite the initial judgment in her favor – awaiting a possible appeal from Barton – Aluko feels that her media career has suffered as a result.

She said: “This happens in many industries – when women defend themselves, their professional lives reach their success.”

“I have been broadcasting for 11 years. I am not new to that. In the past 18 months, I have ever done TV.

“This is just a fact. This is not a feeling, this is an opinion. This is a fact. So I think people can extract their own conclusions of that.”

She also referred to the broader issue of unequal opportunities in the roles of the media for men and women.

“There is a double standard where there is still a limited amount of opportunities for women and female broadcasters, whether in the game of men or women.

“We are still competing for two or three seats as a maximum, including offers.”
