Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film is an adaptation of Homer’s novel The Odyssey

the The speculation could finally be over. Universal took to social media on Monday to give a gift to movie fans everywhere: the first official description for Christopher Nolan’s next movie. It’s called Odyssey Which, yes, it is Adaptation of Homer’s poem.

“Christopher Nolan’s next movie Odyssey It is a legendary epic film filmed around the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s founding epic to IMAX movie screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

Written by Homer centuries before the birth of Christ, Odyssey She is following up on Iliad. The film’s events revolve around Odysseus, the Greek hero who returns to his homeland after the Trojan War. A sprawling adventure featuring mythical creatures, battles, and more, it’s a story that’s been adapted in seemingly every medium and seemingly every era. But, coming from Nolan, you can be sure that this will be the biggest, most faithful, and most massive adaptation yet. Additionally, it’s a far cry from previous rumors about the film, such as it being about helicopter cops or the one reported by this site that it was an old vampire movie. Hey, at least it’s a period movie.

Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o although there is no information on who is playing whom. But let’s speculate a little. We’re thinking – and this is entirely from my io9 colleague Sabina Greaves – that it would make sense to see Matt Damon as Odysseus, Holland as his son Telemachus, Hathaway as Penelope, Theron as Athena, and Pattinson as Poseidon (or Cyclops). Nyong’o as Circe and Zendaya as Calypso. But, again, just speculation.

And what is the “new IMAX movie technology” that the studio is promoting? It looks exciting. But not with the same excitement as Nolan taking on the biggest story of his entire career, and perhaps his second Oscar.
