A campaign against the demonstrators in Türkiye, and the detention of the mayor of Istanbul and the presenters on the supporters of the European Union in Georgia-there is currently no shortage of challenges faced by the Council of Europe from its members. The largest and oldest international government agency – includes 46 countries – has a relatively new president: Alan Perrest, Secretary -General in September 2024. Before his current role, Perrest was an elected minister in the Swiss government.
