Few spin-off shows in television history have been quite as successful as “Young Sheldon.” It certainly never hurts when the show that spawned the spin-off, in this case, “The Big Bang Theory” itself, is already hugely popular, Much like how “Cheers” eventually gave birth to “Frasier.” Instead of going the sitcom route, this series focused on Sheldon Cooper’s younger years growing up in Texas, using a multi-camera format without a live audience. A small part of the show’s appeal is getting to know Sheldon’s family, including his younger brother Georgie, named after their father.
Montana Jordan played young Georgie Cooper In all 141 episodes of “Young Sheldon” over its seven seasons. So, what would attract a young actor like Jordan to take on this role, especially for such a long time? In a 2021 interview with lusterThe actor talked about what initially attracted him to the show. In short, Georgie’s role was consistent with Jordan’s real life.
“When I first read the role of Georgie, I thought I was reading an autobiography. Everything was so consistent with my life in Texas. I played football, and I was always getting in trouble for having a messy room. I mean I could have sat here. Name 100 things in common.” Between me and Georgie.”
Jordan may be in his 20s now, but when the show first aired in 2017, he was just starting out as a teenager. Actors tend to draw on life experiences as much as they can. With Georgie mirroring his life up to that point, it makes sense why Jordan would be interested in the role. This also explains why Chuck Lorre and the producers saw fit to cast him.
What Montana Jordan loves most about playing the role of Georgie Cooper
All the main actors from The Big Bang Theory went on to other projects in HollywoodBut Jim Parsons, who played Sheldon Cooper in every episode of the series, continued the series as an executive producer of “Young Sheldon,” in addition to serving as its narrator. So he definitely had a say in who would play the various members of Sheldon’s family, including his brother Georgie.
To elaborate, in the same interview, Jordan spoke more specifically about what he loved most about playing Georgie on the show. For the young actor, it was all about filling the position of big brother. This is a huge difference from his real life.
“For me, the coolest part is being able to play the big brother. I have two older sisters in real life, so I was always the youngest with them, but oh, how things turned out on this project. Macy and Sheldon better watch out.”
Although this show has ended, the world of “The Big Bang Theory” continues. CBS recently started airing a new series, “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage”, which sees Montana reprising the role of Georgie. Along with Emily Osment’s Mandy McAllister.
