The crocodile, which became famous after appearing in the 1986 film “Crocodile Dundee”, has died, the Australian reptile and the aquarium in which it lived were announced on social media.
Burt, the famous saltwater crocodile who appeared alongside Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski in the hit film, is believed to be over 90 years old.
Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin said in Instagram share Bert died peacefully over the weekend, “marking the end of an incredible era.”
“Bert’s life story is one of strength, resilience and a character as bold as the Top End itself,” the post continued. “Captured in the Reynolds River in the 1980s, Bert became one of the most famous crocodiles in the world, appearing in Crocodile Dundee and helping to shape the image of Australia as a land of rugged natural beauty and amazing wildlife.”
Bert made his way to Crocosaros Bay in 2008 and became a “fierce and brilliant ambassador for crocodile education,” the aquarium said.
“Bert was known for his independent nature and was a bachelor, an attitude he demonstrated during his early years on the crocodile farm,” they said. “His fiery temperament earned him the respect of caretakers and visitors alike, as he embodied the raw, untamed spirit of the saltwater crocodile.”

In the film, Hogan’s character Mick Dundee trades the Australian outback for the concrete jungle of New York after meeting an American reporter, played by Kozlowski. Peart is seen in a scene where Kozlowski’s character is attacked while kneeling next to a stream.
Bert will be honored with a memorial marker at Crocasaurus Cove.
