The Minister of Justice said that many prisons in France were injured by a wave of attacks overnight.
Galled Darmanin said that prisons faced “intimidation attempts” ranging from burning the car to automatic weapons fire.
La Parisien reported that vehicles caught fire in many car parks, while the prison in Toulon was targeting gunshots from an automatic weapon.
The newspaper lists six institutions as targeted: in Tolon, AIX-EN-PROVINCE, Marseille, Valence, NîMES, Luynes, VillepInte, and Nanterre.
In a post on X, Darmanin said he was traveling to Toulon to provide his support to the officers.
Without direct blame for the attacks, he said that the French government is taking action “deeply disruption” criminal networks.
