The gradual disposal of Autorickshaws that depends on CNG, or that gasoline, diesel, or CNG two wheels in Delhi, recommends the draft EV Policy 2.0

The Delhi government is scheduled to announce its Electric Car Policy (EV) 2.0, which aims to reduce air pollution by gradually getting rid of Cng Autorickshaws and moving to electrical alternatives. As of August 15, no new records of Cng Autorickshaws will not be allowed, and current permits will not be renewed. Instead, all CNG AUTO permits will be replaced or re-released only with AT-Auto permits.

This step is part of a broader strategy to replace vehicles that depend on fossil fuels used in hard waste management and public transport buses run by the integrated multimedia transport system in Delhi and Delhi Transport Company (DTC) with electrical models, officials said on Monday.

In addition to Autorickshaws, the policy imposes the replacement of CNG Autorickshaws, which is over 10 years old with the battery run during the policy period. It will face the two wheels that run on gasoline, diesel, or CNG, a similar ban on August 15, 2026. The policy also determines that as of August 15, 2025, there will be no new recordings allowed for diesel, gasoline or CNG three wheels used as carriers for goods. The officials said these measures are part of an aggressive batch to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and improve air quality in the capital.

Policy draft determines major changes in municipal waste management as well. All garbage collection vehicles owned by municipal bodies, including the Municipal Foundation in Delhi and the New Delhi Municipal Council, must move to electric cars by December 31, 2027.

Moreover, DTC and DIMTS public transport buses will move to electrical buses for operations inside the city, with the uses compatible with Bharat Stage VI (BS VI) for services between the country. They added that this shift aims to achieve a 100 percent electrical fleet gradually.

For private car owners, the policy states that individuals who already have two cars should choose an electric car when purchasing a third car. This recommendation will become effective after the official notification of the EV 2.0 policy. The current EV policy, which was expired on March 31, was extended for 15 days to allow the end of the new draft. They added that this policy is awaiting the approval of the cabinet in Delhi, and aims to a total decrease in the levels of air pollution in the city.
