It’s a smash-and-grab world, where a $210 million epic is poised to be a quick, hard-hitting hit that, once pushed out of theaters by the onslaught of low-profile family films like “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and “Mufasa,” will find its adult audience via streaming So, if you’re waiting for a movie that’s scheduled to be released on the largest possible screen to be available for home viewing, your bread and circuses will begin the day before Christmas.
Paramount Pictures has just announced that Gladiator II will be released digitally on December 24th. It is the second part that was generally well received (/Chris Evangelista from the movie was a fan) For the 2001 Best Picture Oscar winner, it’s expected to compete for multiple Oscars, with Denzel Washington getting a lot of hype for Best Supporting Actor, so it’s the kind of movie you’ll want to see at least once. If you’re already a fan of Gladiator II, or tend to seek out Ridley Scott films but missed seeing this film on the big screen, you’ll definitely want to purchase digitally or in 4K Ultra HD. This is a lot of bang for your buck, and par for the course for Ridley Scott’s home entertainment release – although we miss the days when Charles De Lozirica would direct and produce in-depth, behind-the-scenes documentaries of the legendary director.
However, if digital ownership of a movie isn’t your bag, we have good news for you. Paramount will release “Gladiator II” as part of a two-movie box set in 4K Ultra HD and on the 4K Ultra HD SteelBook (most likely with all the above extras included) on March 4, 2025. If you want to give Scott’s film the best of the best, The best possible presentation in your home (although he really prefers yours).
