One of the Nigerian human rights and environmental NGOs filed a lawsuit in the Lagos Supreme Court to prevent Shell from selling its Nigerian assets to a local oil and gas company. Haida says that Shell is responsible for 35 % of oil spills in Nigeria and accuses multinational oil in structuring the $ 2.4 billion deal to avoid responsibility for its long history of pollution.
