The death of immigrants set a record in 2024, says the United Nations Agency Immigration news

Nearly 9,000 deaths have confirmed all over the world, but there are likely to be much higher losses.

The United Nations Immigration Agency says nearly 9,000 people died last year in an attempt to cross the border.

The death toll set a new record for the fifth year in a row. The number of deaths has doubled on migrant roads more than twice since 2020.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has recorded 8,938 migrant deaths in 2024. The real number of deaths will be much higher, given that many deaths were not reported or not documented.

“The emergence of deaths is terrible in itself, but the fact that thousands remained unknown every year more tragic,” said Julia Black, the migrant coordinator in the missing IOM.

“The increase in deaths in many regions in the world shows why we need a comprehensive international response that can prevent more tragic loss of lives,” said Deputy Director General of Operations, Augushe Daniels.

He added: “Behind every human number, someone destroys the loss.”

Asia was the area that has most of the deaths with 2788, followed by the Mediterranean Sea with 2452 and Africa with 2,242. The final data has not yet been present for the Americas, but at least 1233 deaths (including 341 in the Caribbean region) occurred in 2024.

At least 233 migrants lost their lives in Europe and 174 in the Darren gap between Colombia and Panama, a new record.

According to the International Organization for Migration, immigrants are all people who leave their place of residence for any reason, for any period of time, whether voluntarily or involuntary. Some seek to resort because they flee war or violence.

The standard dead news that caused this comes days after the agency announced that it suspends many “saving life” programs around the world and launching hundreds of employees due to discounts in the United States, affecting millions of migrants and weak refugees worldwide.

Geneva -based IOM is one of several groups that help the displaced people who have been in the main American aid, forcing it to expand the scope of back or shutter programs, which he said will have a severe impact on immigrants.
