Two municipal officials said on Thursday that six people died and nine others were wounded after a tourist submarine was sank in the famous Egyptian Red Sea in Horgada. They were speaking, provided that their identity was not disclosed because they were not allowed to inform the media.
Emergency crews managed to save 29 people, according to a statement issued by the Red Sea Governorate. The submarine, which was sailing from a beach in the Broming Tourist area, was carrying 45 tourists of various nationalities.

It was not immediately evident why the submarine sank.
In November, a tourist yacht drowned in the Red Sea after warnings of harsh water, Egyptian officials said. At least four people drowned, while 33 were rescued.
Tourism is an important sector for Egypt’s economy, but many tourism companies have stopped or limited travel on the Red Sea due to the dangers of conflict in the region.
