Last year was great for cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin (Crypto: Bitcoin) The $100,000 barrier has been broken, the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology has taken center stage, and altcoins have soared to new heights. But with 2024 in the past, a new question arises: What could the new year hold for the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrencies?

While it’s all just speculation, guessing what’s next is half the fun. Here are my three predictions for cryptocurrencies in 2025.

Bitcoin’s astonishing 2024 rally has cemented its position as the world’s most valuable cryptocurrency, but I think it’s still a long way off. My first prediction is that Bitcoin will reach $200,000 in 2025. There are two main factors supporting this bold goal: the halving effect and institutional demand via exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Bitcoin Halfwhich occurred in April 2024, halved the supply growth rate. This supply shock occurs approximately every four years and serves as the historical foundation for Bitcoin’s strongest bull runs, and I expect 2025 to be no different. Halving events continually increase demand as scarcity increases, pushing the price of Bitcoin higher.

Additionally, the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in 2024 has already opened the door to a wider range of investors. These ETFs make it easier for retail investors to add Bitcoin exposure to their 401(k) accounts and individual retirement accounts (IRAs), as well as institutional investors who manage pension funds, hedge funds, and endowments, all without having to move around. Complexities of cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges. Data indicates that these ETFs are accumulating Bitcoin at a price An unprecedented paceresulting in constant buying pressure.

Furthermore, if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his proposal to create a strategic reserve of Bitcoin for the United States, the price target for Bitcoin could rise even higher. While the details of such a plan are still unclear, the mere possibility of its adoption at a national level would be a game-changer for Bitcoin’s trajectory.

Ah, the swing season, everyone’s favorite time in the cryptocurrency cycle. This is the period when capital flows from Bitcoin to smaller cryptocurrencies, causing altcoin prices to rise. Historically, the alt season occurs in the year following the Bitcoin halving, and 2025 fits into this timeline perfectly.

But my expectations go beyond just saying the alternate season will happen. I think 2025 will bring two major surprises.

First, the alternate season will arrive later than most people expect. Why? Liquidity. Altcoins thrive when liquidity floods the market, but the current macroeconomic environment suggests a more cautious pace. While expected interest rate cuts from central banks should help inject some liquidity, the Fed is still tightening the money supply, and the dollar continues to rise to new highs. While cryptocurrencies can still rally in these scenarios, these factors typically result in Bitcoin attracting the bulk of capital, leaving altcoins behind.
